~* Our Very First Farm Raised Turkey*~

This past year our family raised some Turkeys for the very first time. We learned many new lessons with raising them as they are very different from chickens. They do and will eat you out of house and home along with anything they can find themselves (we raised them on all natural/organic feed along with free range). They are by far not at all a very smart bird, rather the opposite. They LOVE shiny things, i.e. IPOD ear-buds, earrings, string of any sort and anything else they "try" to put down their mouth.

So after almost a year of raising them we just had them butchered. They dressed out at over 30+ pounds!! The boys killed them and then we took them into a processor to have them skinned etc for us. When Dad went to pick them up, there was a hunter in there getting his "Wild" game turkey. After his "chicken sized" turkey was brought out, the butcher then brought out our huge turkeys. The man could not at all figure out where in the world Dad hunted such HUGE Turkeys!!! Daddy then told him that they were domestic/farm raised turkeys.

(above pic) Myself, secretly happy to be done with my mini T~Rex's of the Chicken Yard...;)

I guess all that feed went somewhere, becuase these guys had so much meat on them!!

Almost ready for the oven....

Getting the turkey ready to cook.

All done!!
What a very flavorful bird!
